DESIGN

Apple MAcbook Air

The most unique feature of the Macbook Air is its body made out of 100% aluminium. The iconic backlit logo never misses to awe us. The sides are curved in wedge design. The thickness of the MacBook Air reduces gradually as we proceed from the hinge to the front edge.

Air is available in silver, space grey and gold colours. This Macbook’s design defines minimalism and superiority (which is why a lot of guys buy Apple products). The whole body is one of the thinnest and lightest 13-inch ultrabook bodies available as of now.

DISPLAY & SCREEN QUALITY

Apple Macbook Air

MacBook Air has an innovative 2560 x 1600 Retina Display. Though the panel produces 109% of sRGB gamut (less than its competitors), still the 4 million+ pixels produce the best colour with clean and sharp details.

Brightness maxes out at 250 nits. This is enough for outdoor work but other similar devices like Lenovo Thinkpad produce more nits of brightness.

PERFORMANCE & GRAPHICS

Apple Macbook Air

This Macbook is packed with Intel Core i5-8210Y processor that is configurable up to an i9. But the i5 version itself is powerful enough to work great for an average creator/editor/professional.

It has Intel UHD Graphics 617. The common talk ‘macs aren’t the best for gaming’ proves right here. Games require discrete graphics and storage space which is the reason why gamers aren’t seen running live-streams from Macbooks.

The Macbook Air is built for multitasking, but there is a problem that occurs frequently. The fan sound may also be problematic while multitasking but it quiets down if you do light activities.

STORAGE

The Air supports 128 GB SSD to 1.5 TB PCIe SSD. It is advisable to not upgrade to the limit because (a) The average premium 512 GB SSD laptop costs way lesser than the 512 GB Macbook Air and (b) What would you even do with that much space? Is your “Homework folder” that big?

Data transfer is lightning fast in Macbook Air. Other competitors lack far behind the Macbook in speed.

BATTERY

Macbooks have been known for their battery life too. The Air also going to give you the same experience.

It lasts about 9 hours on normal browsing with medium brightness. That is a great score given that it has an awesome performance as well.

Other laptops with the same specs may average out on 8 hours. That puts the Macbook Air on an advantage.

PORTS

The Macbook Air is far behind on ports though. It has 3 ports in totality (excluding charger port). It’s great to go for the “thinnest laptop” prize but it’s really important to consider what the laptop has to sacrifice in peripherals for that.

On the right side, there is a headset jack. On the left, there are two Thunderbolt USB 3.0 ports for fast data transfer.

Though Apple has upgraded its USB ports from previous versions, it still needs to look around instead of looking behind.

KEYBOARD, TOUCHPAD & TOUCH ID

KEYBOARD

The keyboard is a butterfly-style keyboard that we usually see on other Macbooks. It offers 0.6 mm travel and requires 70 grams of actuation force. Windows laptops have better keyboards than MacBooks, in terms of comfort as well as durability.

Apple has really downgraded in terms of its keyboards. numerous users have faced problems with the butterfly keyboard upgrade since its keys stop functioning even if a little bit of dust gets inside the mechanism. The problem became so big that Apple had to set up a special programme that enables users to get the faulty keyboards (of 2015-2019 models) fixed for unlimited times, for free.

TOUCHPAD

MacBook Air has introduced a new all-glass Force touch trackpad that measures 4.6 x 3.1-inches. Apple has upgraded the trackpad accuracy and sensitivity in the Macbook Air

A funny thing about this trackpad is that you will feel it moving as you scroll your fingers on it. Pretty unique, isn’t it?

TOUCH ID

There is a Touch ID fingerprint sensor on the top right of the Macbook. There is no touch bar like other Macbook versions which means more space for keys.

Your SSD data is encrypted by default through the Touch ID T2 chip. This quality is exclusive to a very less number of laptops

AUDIO

The Macbook Air is powered with stereo speakers. But they are as powerful as normal they look like. The sound quality is amazing. There is a perfect balance between bass and treble.

The vocals too sound detailed and clear even from a few feet distance. There is no complaint from the audio sector of the laptop.

CONCLUSION

For users who are already using a Mac, you have all reasons to upgrade to the Macbook Air. It has everything better that its predecessors do not.

For other users, buy this if you are ready to give up on storage space, lack of accessibility of Mac OS, etc.

But performance-wise, Macbook Air is a great pick for guys who want to do desk work, make PPTs/spreadsheets/word documents and do not want to carry out any kind of gaming.
